FAQ

How much of the money raised goes to charity?

We have done our best to control cost, which has resulted in 90% plus going to the beneficiaries. With a part-time staff person, donated food and beverages, and unequaled support from the Inn at Hood River and Mt. Hood Meadows, we will continue this goal.

What is “Bucks to Buck”?

Our Founder has a cowboy history, so our beginnings started with a “cowboy-up for cancer” theme. 100% of the money raised by individuals and teams under the “Bucks to Buck Cancer” goes to the charities we support.

Is the money donated tax deductible?

Since we are a not-for-profit corporation, which is authorized under section 501 (c) 3 of the IRS code, all donations are tax deductible.

Who gets the money?

“What’s raised here, stays here!” is a major theme of our efforts. Your money will go to local research being conducted at OHSU’s Knight Cancer Institute, hospice and children grief counseling through Providence Health services, support for children and their families provided by Candlelighter’s of Oregon and women’s breast cancer support through Breast Friends.

Is this a ski race?

First of all, snowboarders have also been a part of this for many years, along with skiers. It is a race, but winning is based upon matching the team’s collective time from the first day to the final runs on the second day of competition. Therefore, it’s not about how fast you are, but how consistent you perform.

What if I don’t have four others to make a team, can I still participate?

Absolutely, give us a call, or register on-line under “individual”. We will make up a team with you and others, giving you a chance to get to know some new friends who share your interest in doing something that is “serious fun”! If you are short some for a team, go ahead and register as a team, let us know, and we will fill in the number needed.

I don’t ski or board, is there something I can do?

The success of this event is greatly dependent on volunteers before, during, and after each year’s effort. Give us a call at 971-275-5690, or email cancerskiout@gmail.com and we will find a way to use your talents. Don’t forget we will put your donations to good use!!

What if I want to start a different event? Are you interested?

We have added the Oregon Cancer Bike Out (mountain biking) , Golf to Give and we want to be a vital part of any effort that is going to raise money to fight cancer. One major condition: This is about raising funds for charity! Let us know what you have in mind and we will explore it with you and others who may wish to be involved.

I have a suggestion, or a concern, for the Ski Out’s operation. Who do I contact?

We have a very active, out-spoken Board of Directors, who wants to hear what you have to say. They are listed under the “who are we” section. You can also write to cancerskiout@gmail.com.
